Create an itinerary including San Antonio Missions National Historical Park
First established by Catholic missionaries on the frontier of the Spanish Southwest, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park highlights the history behind the colonization of this area. Take a step back into the 18th century and explore the four preserved missions located on the property: Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. Free, hour-long, and highly recommended guided ranger tours depart from the visitor center at Mission San Jose. While the missions are accessible by foot or bike via the riverwalk trail, they are quite spread out, so traveling by car is recommended. • Each mission is quite different and well worth the visit(s). Structurally, they appear unique and each has its own character. The surrounding grounds also differ among these missions. When added...

  • Amazing and beautiful insight in to early Texas. A real view to the past. My favorite was espada but all 5 missions are worth at least a few minutes.

  • I have visited the Missions twice, a few years back (just getting around to reviewing). I saw the 4 Missions in 1 day (I drove to them all in one day) and then saw the Alamo the next day. Each one was more unique and beautiful than the next and I couldn't possibly pick a favorite! The history and the architecture and the beautiful paintings on the walls are nothing less than magnificent! These historical place have been so well-preserved by the National Park Service and I was so glad that I visited them. The next time I found myself in San Antonio, I even took a friend to see all of them. Don't miss out of these beautiful, historic places that wonderful San Antonio has to offer. (I am going to dig up my photos and post one from each different Mission.)
  • Beautiful historical site where you can travel through time, just a few minutes away from Downtown San Antonio. My favorite place was Mission San José, due to its unique architecture and solemn atmosphere. A place you should definitely visit with your family and/or significant others. Remember to stop by the gift shop for a keepsake of your visit to this beautiful piece of history. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting San Antonio for the first time. PS: bring lots of water, sunblock and some shade if you’re planning on visiting during summer time.
