Climb an elevation of 1,000 m (3,200 feet) to experience commanding views of some of Yosemite's most iconic features, on Four Mile Trail. The modern trail within Yosemite National Park follows the path of a 19th century toll trail, from which it takes its name (though today it covers a distance closer to five miles). The trail offers excellent views of Yosemite Valley and Yosemite Falls, as well as the park's icons, El Capitan and Half Dome. A side trail along the way takes you to Union Point, which offesr more views of the valley. The steep, partially paved path presents a strenuous challenge--experts recommend starting early in the day because there's not much shade on top, and the round trip can take six to eight hours. Be aware that the trail can close after heavy snowfall. Take the guesswork out of planning a Yosemite National Park vacation by using our trip itinerary maker.

This is a steep trail that is narrow in some spots. Views were amazing. Not overly crowded when we did it. Take you r time and enjoy the views.

This is a great hike! First, I want to thank the National Park Service for maintaining such a difficult trail as well as they do with as little funding as they get! We went to Union Overlook and turned back (ran out of daylight). The highest elevation gain is the first 3 miles to Union Overlook, so we still had a sense of accomplishment! This took us about 3 hours, but we took many stops to rest and enjoy the great scenery on the way up. If we had gone without stopping it probably would take about 2 hours. Although it was November, it was quite warm in the sun, and we wished we had taken some water. I would also recommend taking a bit of salt or some salty food, as we did sweat a lot on the way up.
