An 11th-century World Heritage Site, Cairo Castle has had great historical and strategic significance. Originally the residence of the ruler, the defense fortress perches on the highest point over the city of Taiz. Airstrikes in 2015 destroyed up to 30 percent of the castle, once a favorite with visitors who came to tour and watch the sunset.     Saber mountain and Alkahira castle are the most visited attractions in Taiz city. The castle was built for military purposes 100s of years ago it remains a living attraction.

    Al-Qahira Castle is a historical castle in the ancient city of Taiz, Yemen. It is located on the northern slope of Mount Sabr, which is based on rocky highlands overlooking the city. It is said that the area was originally referred as the old Taiz, and later renamed as Al-Qahira (Cairo). The castle is considered as the nucleus of the city of Taiz.
